Fancy a cuppa? Lady Bonin's Tea

The phrase "fancy a cuppa", has become quite synonymous with the drinking of tea. In fact, is there anything better than a cup of tea to sooth life's woes or celebrate its togetherness? It's that mystical brew that has permeated life across the cultural divide leaving nothing more universal than enjoying a cup of tea. Let it be said that there is no hierarchy in tea. It is the most widely consumed beverage globally after water and even out-ranks coffee.

I recently had the most wonderful tea tasting experience which has opened me up to the idea of enjoying tea in it's more natural form than the rich and milky Indian chai that I am used to. Make no mistake though, there is little that can beat a properly prepared Indian cup of chai that has been boiled till it becomes deep and intense with perhaps the addition of a cracked clove of cardomom and then topped up with hot boiled milk and a bit of sugar. The perfect ending to a big meal or addition of a biscuit or two for anytime enjoyment.

Lady Bonin's Tea first caught my eye when I saw its eye catching packaging a few months ago at Jiji's Juice shop in Woodstock. I then came across the shop, Lady Bonin's Tea Parlour at the Woodstock exchange. It is a bohemian paradise that offers a calming escape from an otherwise frantic city environment. You can have a tea tasting at the shop from about R90 that may help you to choose from the dozens of different teas available but my focus for this article is not on the shop itself as it is not a halaal venue but on the tea that you can buy and enjoy in your own space.
