[New post] Honey-Glazed Chicken Breasts & Apple-Potato Purée Today

Greg Henry posted: ""An apple a day..." You know the rest of that phrase in the traditional sense. I know you do. But here at Sippity Sup that phrase means I've slipped into one of my moods and I plan to post quite a few apple recipes over the next week (or maybe even two). "

[New post] Concha y Toro “Amelia” Chardonnay 2011

Sunday mornings are made for lazy breakfasts and coffee on the couch in your pj's. This last Sunday though I woke up with a bee in my bonnet. Cabin Fever! The house was closing in on me and I needed to get out. So I rounded everyone up and set off towards the ocean to find a nice spot for breakfast.

Caturra Coffee Bar was our final destination. It has recently been bought over by Zameer Kantharia and reinvented into a trendy little spot on the humming Sea Point Main Road. He is a professional chef, originally from Zimbabwe, who studied in Joburg. He did a six month internship in Ibitha, poor guy.... :-), and decided to open up Caturra Coffee bar where he could offer a superior coffee shop experience without compromising on the quality of the food.

Maple Sesame Kale Chips, Pasta e Fagioli and More...

I'm not sure how you feel about kale chips -- they are not for everyone, as my children have made abundantly clear -- but if you're fan like I am, this is a wonderful version to try. The recipe comes from one of my favorite new cookbooks, Kale, Glorious Kale by Catherine Walthers. The crisp, shattering leaves are a bit salty, a bit sweet and a bit spicy; and the sesame seeds add nutty flavor and heft. The first time I made them, I ate the entire batch standing at the stove before I could even photograph them, and then I happily made them again. Kale chips are guilt-free, after all. They're filling too (well, at least if you eat the whole pan like I do) -- make them in the afternoon and they'll easily tide you over until dinnertime.

Okay guys, I know I missed the Instagram bandwagon but I'm fixing that now. In fact, I think I'm actually becoming a bit of an addict! :) I'm sharing behind the scenes shots from my kitchen (so you can get a sneak peek as to what's ahead), as well as pics of my family, my recipes and my paintings. I'd love to connect with you there! Click here to follow Once Upon a Chef on Instagram.
