I happened to find myself in Woodstock last week with an hour to kill so decided it was a great excuse to check out one of the revamped and revitalised hangouts in the area. I had passed a bright and interesting looking organic juice shop earlier so made my way back to main road for something healthy.

Nuri Sushi Factory, Cape Twon CBD

Nuri Sushi Factory, Cape Twon CBD

Today's post has been written by a guest, Chef Minzoor Osman, who also happens to be my cousin and a serious sushi fiend. He's been telling me about Nuri Sushi Factory for months so I got him to review it instead. Here's his take...

In the heart of Cape Town, behind Adderley Street you will find Nuri Sushi Factory. Yes factory.

At first glance you see this laid back restaurant with what looks to be a production line run by 10 sushi chefs in a row. There's no TV's or loud music so you actually give your attention to the people at your table. It's bustling and vibey but overall it's a very chilled atmosphere.

Last of the Cape Town Winter specials 2014

Last of the Cape Town Winter specials 2014

Last of the Cape Town Winter specials 2014

In spite of the cold I find the need to get out of the house in Winter quite overwhelming. Cabin fever can drive you quite batty and for someone who works from home any reason to go out is prime. Here are some specials still on (only just) for Winter that will motivate you to get your thermals on and head out anyway.

Pepenero
Order three main meals off the à la carte menu and get the fourth for free; half-price sushi on selected items; and R30 cocktails.

Okra :Commonly known as Lady Finger (medicinal uses)

L:lowers blood glucose level

A:anti diuretic

D:depression

Y:dietry meal

F:feeling weak

I:lipid lowering

N:anti neoplastic(anti cancer)

G:treat gastric irritation

E:used in exhaustion(frustration)

R:regulate absorption of blood glucose from intestine.

Okra is commonly known as lady finger, most commonly used green vegetable but we didnot know the medicinal uses belong to this vegetable. The name of this vegetable
is remarkable indication towards the women ring finger. Recent study shows that okra is used in treating breast cancer. Mostly people cook okra with tomato and other
citrus fruit like lemon but try to avoid this because combination of both making it carcinogenic(cancer producing) and reduces the stickiness of okra making it less beneficial.

I first tasted a Savouring at the Food and Hospitality World fair earlier this year. If you don't know what a savouring is then you're probably one of many. And if like me you like interesting condiments and food accessories then you'll love this. Fynbos foods specialises in condiments made with chillies and their stand at the show proved to be a real hit...

Rossini's location at first seems a bit dodgy. Situated just below the bridge at the end of Kromboom road before the M5 you can be forgiven for wondering if it's even safe to park your car there. The night that we decided to go was wet and cold. So it was a welcome relief to enter into the warmth of the mostly empty restaurant. It must be noted though that they were over half full by later in the evening. My limited expectations, due to it's location, were pleasantly dispelled by the inviting atmosphere inside.
