Tokai Forest Market |

Z and I got some alone time and decided to drive out to Tokai and check out the Tokai forest market where I'd heard some halaal vendors had put up shop. It took about 30 minutes to get to Tokai from the Northern Suburbs, a leisurely and stress free drive with no traffic. On taking the off-ramp from the M3 highway on to Tokai road we actually missed the turnoff to the market. Easy way to remember is turn right at the circle before you get to the actual Tokai forest. The market is outdoors and set on a slight incline in a rustic atmosphere. With pretty mountains in the background on a sunny day you'd be hard pressed to find a more scenic venue. It's not very big and was not very busy either, which was lovely as we did not have to fight crowds to check out what was on offer. Most of the vendors seemed to be selling wares that were hand made. We sampled some honey from Lo's honey who had 4 different flavours of honey on offer. The bee's were literally floating around the pots on the table. I guess you can't get a better endorsement for your honey than the actual bees. We settled on subtle Orange Blossom and Eucalyptus at R45 a jar. Read more » |
